Q&A

Tim McCarthy

Tim McCarthy is a distinguished former United States Secret Service agent celebrated for his extraordinary courage and dedication to duty. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, McCarthy joined the Secret Service in 1972, embarking on a career that epitomized bravery and service. He is best known for his heroic actions on March 30, 1981, when an assassination attempt was made on President Ronald Reagan outside the Washington Hilton Hotel. In a split-second decision, McCarthy placed himself in the line of fire, shielding the president with his own body and taking a bullet to the abdomen. His selfless act helped save Reagan’s life and cemented his legacy as a symbol of the Secret Service’s commitment to protecting the nation's leaders.

Following the assassination attempt, McCarthy recovered fully from his injuries and continued to serve with distinction. After retiring from the Secret Service, he returned to his roots in public service, becoming a respected police chief in Orland Park, Illinois. Throughout his life, McCarthy has been a vocal advocate for public safety, law enforcement, and the values of courage and selflessness. His story continues to inspire generations, reminding Americans of the profound sacrifices made by those who serve in silence to protect their country.
